Fingers

7 June, 2007
Fingers
wear rings,
pull zippers,
swear,
wipe lips,
shush,
scratch itches,
hold pens.
There are fingers on everybody;
they wiggle and push.
They squash bugs
point,
twirl hair,
flick ashes,
feel cloth,
snap,
are licked.
Each finger defines a point,
an action,
a desire;
each one is a path
upon which our eyes
embark
while my digits push half-moons
into table-gum.

I love this. I'm going to read it to my kids tonight.
